Berlin can be reached by every type of transport imaginable: by plane, train, car, bus, by foot and by bicycle – and if you have a bit more time on your hands, even by boat. 

Berlin has two airports: Tegel in the northwest and Schönefeld in the southeast. Tempelhof, formerly the third airport on the southern edge of the inner city, was shut down in autumn 2008. Tegel and Schönefeld are both served by regular express bus service to the city centre. Schönefeld is also easily accessed via the S9 train and regional trains. Tegel Airport can be reached using public transport by combing the S-Bahn or U-Bahn and buses (S41/42 to Jungfernheide, U7 to Jakob-Kaiser-Platz, Buses X9, 109, 128.) Depending of traffic, travel time from both airports to the city centre/Potsdamer Platz ranges from 25 to 45 minutes. 

 

Berlin’s most important train stations are the new "Hauptbahnhof" - the main station, openend in summer 2006 - and the "Ostbahnhof" on the edge of the eastern inner city. Both stations are connected to the Berlin S-Bahn urban rail network and served by numerous bus lines. Travel time from Hauptbahnhof to Potsdamer Platz is 5 minutes by taxi. From Ostbahnhof Potsdamer Platz can be reached within 10 to 20 minutes by taxi, depending on traffic, or 15 minutes by S-Bahn (change at Bahnhof Friedrichstraße). 

 

You can reach Berlin by car from every direction via the A10 motorway/Berlin Ring. Potsdamer Platz can be reached from the west, south and north by taking the A 115 or A 110 and following signs to “Berlin-Zentrum West”, from the east, one should follow signs to “Zentrum” to the city centre/Berlin Mitte, where “Potsdamer Platz” will be signposted.  

 

Oh, and finally: the closest place to Potsdamer Platz to tie up your boat is the Kulturforum quay on the Landwehrkanal.
