1 - Aims
The Panorama is an integral part of the Official Programme. It seeks to expand and further solidify the spectrum of films to be theatrically released. New endeavours of noted filmmakers and discoveries will be presented. Auteur cinema will occupy its traditional place as will genre-oriented productions of an innovative nature.
2 - Structure
The main programme will present approximately 16 films. The series ”Dokumente” offers an intensified look at documentaries and comprises appr. 10 titles. In the ”Panorama Special”, large-scale independent productions from the international arena of filmmaking as well as films from major U.S. studios will be presented. Approximately 16 films are to be screened.
Public press briefings following the premieres or press conferences offer an exchange with film directors, cast and crew.
3 - Selection
The Director of the Panorama is responsible to the Festival Director for his selection.
All films offered for consideration for the Competition may be considered for participation in the Panorama unless specifically instructed otherwise.
4 - Eligibility of Films
Eligible for participation are feature films and documentaries of at least 70 minutes running time which:
- have been produced in the 12 months preceding the Festival
- have not been released in Europe other than in their country of origin
- have not been presented in another German or European film festival
- Films produced for television can only be considered if a theatrical release is also planned
- German films must not have been shown publicly prior to the Festival
- are available in 16mm, 35mm or 70mm formats. Video formats upon request.
Priority will be given to world premieres.
5 - Version and Subtitles
All films must be shown in their original version, with subtitles in English or German. German films should be subtitled in English. The costs of subtitling are the responsibility of the producer.
The version released or planned to be released in the country of origin is regarded as the original version of the film. The management of the Panorama decides in the case of co-productions involving several countries.
6 - Film Prints and Videocassettes/DVDs
For selection purposes, works may be submitted either on film or on videocassette/DVD.
7 - Documentation
For each film selected, the Festival must immediately receive detailed documentation, including: a synopsis of the film, a biography and complete filmography of the director and of the leading actors, a selection of stills from the film, a recent photograph of the director, and a full list of artistic and technical credits.
8 - Awards
The organizers of the Panorama work in close collaboration with the Festival Press Office and the European Film Market to ensure that films screened receive the maximum attention from the media and the film industry.
The Panorama is a non-competitive section of the Festival and does not offer any awards of its own. Awards of independent organizations are listed in the General Regulations

Each film selected receives a Certificate of Participation.
9 - Official Logo and Promotion
Production and distribution companies of films selected are requested to use, nationally as well as internationally, on their publicity and promotional material, the official Festival logo. This is equally valid for the release of the films on video and DVD. The logo will be made available by the Festival.

of the Berlin International Film Festival will be applied.
